Wall Clocks: Give Your Home a Timeless and Dynamic Allure
In the past, a wall clock was an essential part of every home, but over time we turned to smartwatches and smartphones and forgot about this fabulous timepiece. I never really thought about this before, but this year I spent Easter with my mum and found some old, forgotten photo albums in my old room. It was amazing going through all those memories and reminiscing so many beautiful moments.
At some point, a photo of me and my grandparents grabbed my attention. In that photo, the wall of our old living room is behind us and when I saw the clock on it, I realised immediately! That’s what I need to make my home feel complete. Alright, maybe I’m a little bit exaggerating right now, but I’ve been always looking for simple ways to add a breeze of change in the living area and a wall clock seemed like a great idea to enhance my home interior.
When I got back home, I knew exactly what I should do, took my smartphone and the search began. There are so many different decorative wall clocks online, that one could easily get overwhelmed. Anyway, I was determined to find the perfect one for my living space and here is what I learned.
Choose Your Decorative Clock Carefully
The great news is that wall clocks are making a huge return to the home décor scene. You can find a wide range of decorative clocks and choose one that defines your style and personality. If selected carefully, a wall clock can create balance in your décor and bring the living space together. Modern clocks are designed with decorative function in mind and offer you the best of both functionality and style.
When it comes to decorating with a wall clock, you can go both ways. One is to make sure it fits harmoniously into your home interior, but the reverse works, too. You can choose a clock in a different style and create beautiful contrasts in the room, whether it’s your living room, kitchen or bedroom. There are many different styles and designs, so you can find a clock suitable for a particular room.
However, make sure to choose a silent clock for the bedroom, so the tickling sound won’t disturb your night sleep. Or if you’re like me, you can opt for an alarm clock, a small, beautiful, timeless piece that can easily add charm to the room. It works perfectly well with my bedroom vintage style and makes waking up much easier as I don’t immediately stare at my smartphone when I open my eyes in the morning and lay in bed for extra 10 or 15 minutes every day.
Choosing the size of your decorative clock depends on two things – the wall size and the statement you are trying to make. If you want to enhance the room with a delicate accent, you can go for smaller and more refined clock designs. But if you want to add a statement piece that is pivotal to your interior, a large clock can create a great impact.
Tips for Decorating with Wall Clocks
The Right Placement Can Make a Big Difference
Once you’ve picked your wall clock, it’s time to place it, and according to many interior designers, it should be mounted at standing eye level, so you’ll be able to read the time easily, without any obstructions. I always thought that a wall clock should be hanged higher on the wall as that’s how I remember it from my childhood, and I did so. To be honest, it turned out pretty well as it gave a slightly larger feel to my small apartment.
Since I’m working with a small space, I decided that my wall clock will be the only feature on my blank wall, apart from my wall lights. However, if your living space is large and there is a fireplace, for instance, and you want to place your wall clock above it, then you may want to choose a smaller wall clock, so it won’t compete with a feature that’s already a big part of the room.
The Colour of Your Wall Clock Matters
The colour plays an important role in selecting the right clock for your home. As a rule of thumb, when deciding on your wall clock colour, you should choose a colour that contrasts the colour of the wall. That being said, if you have a white wall, you can go with a dark, bold colour wall clock. If you have an accent wall with a bold colour, then you can opt for a light-coloured clock.
To create a more cohesive appearance within your living space, make sure the colour you choose matches an existing colour, like the colour of the furniture in the room or some decorative pieces, like the cushions, the area rug or else.
Consider the Material As Well
Depending on your style and personal preference, you can choose a traditional or contemporary style wall clock. Wood fits amazingly in rustic and farmhouse environments, but also, it’s a great choice for adding some old-time charm to modern interiors. A metal wall clock, on the other hand, can complement minimalist and industrial home interiors very well and can create a chic atmosphere in any room.
