Vet Recommended Products to Keep Your Dog Healthy and Safe
Dogs are man’s best friends. They are friendly, affectionate, and compassionate. I’m sure that everyone who has decided to adopt a dog at some point in his life will say that their furry pal has enriched their life in more ways than one. However, falling in love with a puppy and adopting one, is the easiest part. The harder part is being responsible for the puppy and taking care of their health and well-being.
Dogs can’t really tell you when they’re hurting but you can try to prevent any possible problems. For that purpose, there are many vet recommended products that can be found in an animal pharmacy that can help you keep your dog healthy and safe. Here are some of them.
Zylkene Anxiety and Behaviour Capsules
As a dog owner, I can say from experience that dogs have anxiety attacks just like humans. When looking for a medication that will help your dog manage stressful situations, visit any well-stocked online animal pharmacy. A medication that is commonly recommended by vets is Zylkene capsules. These capsules are a complementary food designed to help your pet friend cope when facing unusual and unpredictable situations.
Zylkene capsules contain a natural product derived from casein (a protein in milk) which is known to promote the relaxation of newborns after breastfeeding. They are palatable and easy to give – just mix them with food or give the whole capsule, if possible. These capsules can be given on a daily basis, and they’re both preservative and lactose-free.
Denamarine Capsules
These capsules are recommended by veterinarians to provide anti-oxidant support for dogs that have impaired liver function and to aid liver detoxification. Pet chemists have Denamarin capsules for dogs of different sizes.
In one Denamarin capsule are combined the benefits of S-Adenosylmethionine (SAMe) and Silybin. The specific Silybin used in these capsuled has been shown to provide better bioavailability in dogs (cats as well) when compared to the standardised milk thistle.
Denamarin is used as an adjunctive treatment for liver disease or dysfunction, like chronic hepatitis, hepatic lipidosis, cholangiohepatitis, paracetamol toxicity, and others.
When should I give my dog Denamarin? First, you should know that the absorption of Denamarin is decreased when it is given with a meal. Therefore, for optimal absorption, it’s best to give it at least one hour before feeding your dog. These tablets shouldn’t be broken as their enteric coating protects the active ingredient from destruction while in the stomach. Depending on your dog’s need, you can gradually reduce or increase the number of tablets.
Malaseb Medicated Shampoo
This is the shampoo I personally use for my dog, and there are a few good reasons for that. It is an antifungal, antibacterial, and antipruritic shampoo that is formulated to remove, scale, degrease the dog skin and kill micro-organisms. Having these effects, this shampoo helps keep the numbers of yeasts and bacteria at manageable levels. Malaseb shampoo also eliminates allergens such as pollens that can be trapped in fur or on the skin which typically cause itching and irritation. This shampoo also removes excess scale and oil which can be produced when the dog skin is infected.
To properly use the shampoo, first make sure that the coat is thoroughly wet. To spread the shampoo well, you can use a sponge. The sponge also holds water and it will help you to ensure that the coat is adequately wet during application. Leave the shampoo on fur for 10 minutes when possible.
Epi-Otic Ear Cleanser
This ear cleaner is an efficient cleanser for dogs’ ears that facilitates the removal of cellular and excessive wax and the drying of the ear canal. This is an alcohol-free and non-irritant cleanser and is perfect for dogs that swim. It also removes cerumen, pus, and debris from a dog’s ear canal, but it is used for routine ear cleansing in healthy ear canals as well. Make sure that it doesn’t come in contact with your dog’s eyes, but in case of contact, immediately flush its eyes with water. If the irritation persists, it’s recommended to seek medical attention.
Oravet Dental Chews
Oravet dental chews are available for dogs of different sizes in any well-stock pet chemist. These chews fight with bad breath, as well as the formation of plaque and tartar in order to defend your dog against dental disease. Each dental chew contains delmopinol that prevents bacteria from attaching to the dog’s teeth. Delmopinol forms a preventive barrier that blocks bacteria and softens and scrubs away existing plaque.
These dental chews have a tasty vanilla flavour and a chewy texture that your dog will surely love. You can give these treats for your sweet, but be careful not to overdose. Each chew is an appropriate size for different dog sizes, and you should give the entire size as it is, without cutting or breaking it.
