A Kitchen with a Laminate Floor, Worry Nevermore!

A few years ago I used to stress out whenever my children would walk into the kitchen. I was afraid they would spill food or drinks on the wooden floor which will stain it and maybe cause the floorboards to rise. But my children weren’t the only risk factor, the air moisture from all the cooking and washing dishes also played role in the its damaging. Luckily, that’s all in the past.

Today I can cook and enjoy dining with my family without yelling at my kids the whole time to be careful not to spill anything on the floor. The reason? Oh, I did the smart thing and installed laminate. Probably the smartest choice I’ve done regarding my interior design. With it I got the look of wood and similar durability at a much, much affordable price. Yay!

Laminate is a multi-layered synthetic flooring material that’s joined together by the process of lamination. There are 3 and 4 layered laminate floorboards to choose from, depending on the durability you want. Being literally a sandwich of protection layers, means this floor can sustain quite the foot traffic. It can withstand all kinds of food and drink spills, so it is the perfect choice if you have small children running around or pets.

Water does not pair well with any kind of flooring, so I don’t want to get ahead of myself and brag about how my laminate floor is waterproof. Even though water is a cause for concern regarding laminate, it’s not detrimental. The only time it could damage a laminate floor is if it gets into the core of it which will cause the laminate floorboards to rise. But if the laminate floorboards are tightly stuck together without having any cracks in-between, water can do no harm to your floor. Furthermore, this material does not soak up any fluids, so spills from drinks or liquid food and splashes from cooking and dish washing will be gone in a snap with a simple towel wipe.

I know how cleaning the kitchen can sometimes be a pain in the neck, but cleaning laminate is easy business and it will literally take you just a couple of minutes. Plus, if it is tightly installed, there won’t be any cracks that will accumulate dust particles. This can also make for a clear and allergy-free kitchen environment. But most importantly, its ever-smooth surface won’t require any special treatment like waxing or polishing. All it needs is just a few swift wipes with a cloth or mop to look as brand new as it was installed yesterday.

Everything considered, laminate really does make for a durable, eco-friendly and most-importantly – low maintenance kitchen flooring option. All of its above-mentioned properties make it perfect for any busy household with children and frequently having guests over. Make your pick from the variety of colours and designs and make your home your favourite place to be.
