Modern Outdoor Furniture: 5 Things To Consider Before Buying Timber

So you have decided to renovate your outdoor space. Well, there is no doubt that a comfortable and attractive outdoor furniture can make a whole lot of difference in how much you can enjoy your time outdoors, I’ve felt it myself. Before I renovated my garden, I had a nasty white plastic chair set that I hated so much and I’m glad that I finally got rid of it. Now, I’m enjoying in the comfort of the far more superior timber furniture set that immediately transformed my garden from drab to fab. I also added a few touch ups, such as jar candle lights on the floor. But, the main question here is: Why precisely timber?

Since ever, timber has been the best choice for affordable modern outdoor furniture mainly because it is extremely durable and appealing. Its oils and naturally occurring rubber protect it from water, rot and insects, which results in a sturdy and good looking furniture that will last for a long period of time.

Below I will touch upon several other things you need to consider before making the purchase.

Price

Let’s be honest, timber outdoor furniture is not the cheaper option you have, but believe me, it is worth every penny. How come? When thinking in the long run, wooden furniture is more affordable as it will serve you for many years to come without even changing its shape or colour. But you can also be like me, and wait for a sale. This is the perfect way to choose any type, colour, material and style of furniture and buy the most quality and affordable modern outdoor furniture that will suit your entire outdoor design.

Sustainability

Be it a wood dining table, timber garden furniture, timber benches, etc., make sure you buy an eco-friendly, sustainably sourced and manufactured timber. Buying a certified timber is a great way to ensure that your outdoor furniture is eco-friendly.

To Oil Or Not To Oil

There are many manufacturers who recommend oiling the timber as a precaution in order to help maintain its colour. But you should know that the oiling can promote mildew and mould. What you can do is to consult with a professional and decide whether to oil the wood or not. Usually, if the furniture is placed in a covered area, it doesn’t need oiling at all.

Finishes And Weathering

There are several options you have for timber wood and I’ve chosen the sealed one. My outdoor furniture is sealed as I wanted to make sure that the golden brown colour won’t fade within several months when exposed to the sun. In case this doesn’t bother you, choose an unfinished that will slowly go grey when exposed to the elements.

Maintenance

Just like any other material, timber outdoor furniture needs to be cleaned at least twice a year to remove any stains, dirt and dust. Cleaning your outdoor furniture doesn’t require professional help, I do it on my own. All you need is a diluted household cleaner and a bristle brush. In case the furniture has some special finishing that need to be cleaned with a particular product, consult with your vendor for the right cleaning product.
