Floor Rugs: Choose Right & Walk on Design Sunshine

There are many décor elements that can make a home look and feel more cosy and welcoming, but nothing can give a room such a homey touch like a soft and comfortable floor rug can. I have to admit that rugs are my favourite design element – they define the space and give each room a functional layout. Decorating is something that I simply love doing as I enjoy playing with colours, textures and designs.

With all the hassle that comes with moving, I really had no time, nor energy to go through the local stores to find rugs for my space. Luckily, the Internet is always here to save the day. So I went online, took my time and luckily, found a good deal. To help you narrow down your choices and choose a floor rug in accordance to your interior, I’ve compiled a list of a few simple tips.

Find the perfect fit for your space

As one of the most important features, size has a major role when choosing the right rug. The wrong size and shape will undoubtedly ruin the design of the room. The size of the rug depends not only on the size of the room, but on the way the furniture is arranged as well. For smaller rooms I would recommend small round or oval rugs which can give the space more dimension. Square rugs on the other hand are ideal for bigger rooms. These can help you divide the space and define areas in a room.

Combine elegance and function with the right style

The style of the rug should complement and enhance the best features of the interior design, it is as simple as that. Classic rugs such as the timeless Oriental styles or vintage European designs can add a flare of elegance to the space and come in various lavish textures and colours. The beauty of traditional designs is that they give a touch of luxury to both traditional and modern interiors. Contemporary rugs on the other hand, are a mix of unique patterns and colours. These can become a statement piece in any room and make your interior more vibrant and unique.

Quality material for superior comfort

When it comes to the quality and comfort of the rug, the material is of utmost importance. The choice in this case depends on the room you are decorating; are you looking for the most comfy rug for your bedroom or the most durable one for the hallway? Wool is probably the most commonly used material as it is highly resistant and has a soft fell to it which makes it perfect for those areas in your house where there is a lot of traffic, such as the kitchen or the hallway. Cotton is a popular choice as well, it is durable and easy to clean and it is also great for high-traffic areas. Silk on the other hand, is a more delicate material that is very soft and comfy – ideal for areas such as the bedroom or the dining room.
