Home Theater: How I Created My Very Own Cinema

I’m a person who loves watching movies and TV shows. My ideal Friday night includes a comfortable seat, lots of Pringles, and a great film. At the end of a long and stressful workweek, I would rather entertain and educate myself by watching an insightful documentary or a thought-provoking TV series than go clubbing. That’s precisely why I decided to invest in my very own home theater.

Choosing the location of my home cinema was the first thing I did. Since many interior designers say that the home theater should be isolated so it can’t interrupt the business of the home, I picked a spare bedroom and emptied it. Then I framed and insulated the room. Insulation is an immensely important piece of this puzzle because action-packed movies can easily rock the rest of the home. Aside from insulating the floor, the ceiling and the walls (both interior and exterior), I also installed and weatherstripped a sound-blocking door.

Next, I pre-wired a 7.1 surround sound system (it consists of one sub-woofer and seven channel speakers), a video projector and LED lights. I chose LED lighting for my home theater because it’s both tasteful and highly energy efficient. Installing drywall and sound barriers was the step I took before I built the perfect home theater system for me. Since my home cinema is dimly lit, I opted for a 1080p plasma TV. I also purchased a quality Blu-ray player.

After all of this, I started my search for comfy and durable home theater seats. After much thought, I decided to go with 100% leather home theater seats. I realized that such seats can provide me with the much needed comfort and infuse the room with elegance, which is exactly why I furnished my home cinema with a set of three black leather recliners. Since I want to drink a juice or beer while watching a movie or a TV show, I chose seats with cup holders and hidden storage space (for my Pringles, of course).

The last stage of this project of mine was adding character to my home theater. I hanged several posters of my all-time favorite films and TV series (I couldn’t imagine the place without at least one Lord of the Rings poster) and displayed my precious DC comic books. So now, every time I sit back, relax, and get ready for a movie, I remember why and when I fell in love with this art form.
