Gaining the Upper Hand with the Quality Lifting Equipment

Doing pretty much any kind of job on a construction site or performing more demanding tasks in workshops cannot go without the use of lifting equipment. Working with the right lifting tools results in a better performance, an increased productivity and a greater level of safety.

As a workshop owner I use various lifting tools on a daily basis, such as my electrical hoist, vehicle lift and winch. To be honest, as much as I may have experience and knowledge in workshop lifting equipment today, I was practically clueless when I first opened my workshop a couple of years ago. I had a hard time choosing the equipment as I didn’t know what would work best for me at the time, but after an extensive research on lifting gear and unfortunately some wrong purchases, I finally got the right ones.

Since I know the struggle and the hardships that newbie workshop owners go through to choose the right tools for their job, I put together a list of some of the most commonly used workshop lifting equipment pieces and explained their features and uses to help you out.

Hoists

Hoists are one of the most commonly used type of workshop lifting equipment due to their practical design and efficient performance. Some models are operated manually, but the more advanced ones work by making use of electrical or pneumatic power to lift and move loads in a vertical direction. Electrical models can be used with trolleys allowing the hoist to be installed and moved on a truck.

Crane forks

For lifting goods and items in your workshop I would recommend using a crane fork. These are designed to efficiently lift heavy loads such as bricks and concrete. There are two main types of crane forks: manual balance and automatic balance models. Manual types need to be controlled by an experienced operator who can properly adjust the crane fork and safely pick up the load.

Vehicle lifts

Vehicle lifts are an indispensable piece of equipment in any mechanic workshop. They are designed to lift cars, lorries and bikes at the right height for repairs and maintenance. Some models can be used for storage when transporting various vehicles in a fast and safe manner.

Forklifts

As a type of industrial truck, forklifts are designed to lift loads in various directions and can also be used for moving, pulling and pushing items in a workshop or on a construction site. They are usually powered by batteries, but there are also models that operate using petrol or diesel fuel.
